Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:
- The perpetrator in a failed robbery attempt in Union Square is tied to at least two other robberies, police report. The attempted robbery on Monday night left a 42-year-old man injured by gunshot. Police have determined that the suspect opened fire on the victim in a botched robbery while aboard a northbound N train. The suspect is still at large, and anybody with any important information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. (AMNY)
- Over the weekend, photographer Kristofer Dan-Bergman unveiled a series of posters at 120 Essex St. The project, titled "LESWall(k)," displays a series of photographs of passersby at the same Essex Market brick wall over the span of 3 years. Dan-Bergman sought to document the people in the ever-changing Lower East Side. (Bowery Boogie)
- Café Skye opens at 43 Clinton St., and joins the boisterous Lower East Side dining scene. Owner Cameron Bean “hopes to blend the warm qualities of southern hospitality with the unique energy of New York City.” The small eatery will serve "elevated bar food," such as brisket sliders, cheddar frittata, and grain bowls. - Permits have been filed for 24 Orchard St., a 15-story mixed-use building on the Lower East Side. Located between Hester and Canal Streets, the location will boast 13,324 square feet of residential space. An estimated completion date has yet to be announced. (New York YIMBY)
