Here are the top stories today in Lower East Side-Chinatown:

  1. A fundraiser has been launched by the mother of Christopher Brito, the 23-year-old Washington Heights man who was run over by a car doing doughnuts in Lower Manhattan on Saturday night. Brito suffered a fractured skull, brain injury, numerous broken bones, and reportedly cannot currently eat, move, or talk. In the two days since the GoFundMe was launched, it has raised $14,000 of its $30,000 goal towards medical expenses. (Patch)
  2. Arcade Fire played three surprise shows at the Bowery Ballroom over the weekend, all benefits for the Ukrainian Relief Fund. Following Friday's performance, the band gathered outside the Bowery subway station and performed an acoustic set for those gathered. These performances mark the first time the band had performed at the venue since 2004. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. The new 30-story condominium tower on Grand Street, next to the former Bialystoker Nursing Home, is starting to match its original renderings. Exterior paneling is being placed upon the super-structure. The site, now officially known as 222 East Broadway, will yield 54 condos, each averaging about 1,397 square feet. (Bowery Boogie)
