Date Met In Midtown Bar Robs Man After Taking Him Home, Police Say

It's the latest in a string of similar thefts, police said.

LOWER EAST SIDE, NY — A woman who met a man in a Midtown bar stole his watch and camera after he fell asleep after taking her home, police say.

It's the latest in a string of thefts in which women meet their victims in bars or restaurants.

The two had gone back to the man's Lower East Side apartment on Aug. 4. No one has yet been arrested and police released surveillance pictures of the woman Wednesday.

The two met at the Whiskey Trader bar on West 55th Street before they went to the man's home near Madison and Grand streets, police said. Once there, the man fell asleep and the woman took a watch, camera and camera lens from his home and left sometime between 4:10 a.m. and noon, the NYPD said.

Police are also investigating similar cases in which women stole high-end watches from their dates after they fell asleep. In a single week in August, two women stole $80,000 worth of watches from three different dates they had met in Manhattan bars, police said.

The women had gone to their dates' hotels where the men complained of dizziness and lost consciousness, according to authorities.

In a seperate incident, police say a women stole a $37,000 watch from her date after he passed out in his Tribeca home.

The NYPD does not currently believe the incidents are connected, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch.
