Here are the top stories in Lower East Side-Chinatown today:

  1. The recently opened Yu and Me Books is highlighting diverse voices and making a positive impact on the community in the store's infancy. Owner Lucy Yu stated that she has committed herself to "focus on diverse authors, writers of color, stories with people of color as their main character, especially immigrant stories." As a woman-owned, and Asian American-owned establishment, Yu and Me Books is the first of its kind in the city. (WABC-TV)
  2. The Seward Park High School cheerleading team has become only the second team from Manhattan to ever make it to the national competition. The team qualified for the competition in Orlando two weeks ago. Head coach Giana Quinterno has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help with the costs involved with travel, uniforms, and hotels for their journey. (Bowery Boogie)
  3. Grocery delivery apps have sprung up abruptly across the Lower East Side. Gorillas, a leader in the delivery app world, recently took over the commercial space at 294 Grand St., while the smaller Turkish-owned Getir moved into a Seward Park storefront at 43 Essex St. Some fear the delivery business model may have a negative impact on neighborhood bodegas.
