5 Officers Injured Putting Nassau Man Into Custody: Police

Luis Taborda Corrales had fled after having an altercation with a woman, police said.

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY — Five officers were injured on Thursday afternoon attempting to place a West Hempstead man in custody, Nassau police said.

Luis Taborda Corrales, 27, was involved in a verbal argument that escalated with a 26-year-old woman, police said.

Corrales, who fled on a bicycle, was located a short time later by police who attempted to put him into custody, authorities said.

Corrales became violent and combatant. After a brief struggle they were able to secure him, police said.

Five officers were taken to a hospital with injuries.

Corrales is charged with three counts of second-degree assault, four counts of second-degree harassment and resisting arrest. He was scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
