Fire Ravages LI Deli; 7 Treated For Smoke Inhalation
Police and firefighters recused an employee who was trapped in the kitchen area of the deli Sunday morning.

VALLEY STREAM, NY – A fire ripped through a Nassau County deli Sunday morning.
The blaze broke out at the Crown Deli located at 519 W. Merrick Road in Valley Stream at 6:11 a.m., Nassau Police said.
When police and firefighters arrived on the scene, they heard a man calling for help from the rear of the deli. A forcible entry tool was used to break through a locked door and rescue the 33-year-old employee inside. The employee was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for smoke inhalation. He is currently listed in stable condition. Six officers were also evaluated/treated for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and prevented it from spreading to other stores, the Valley Stream Fire Department said in a post on its Facebook page.
The Elmont, Lynbrook, Malverne, Hewlett, Inwood, Woodmere and Lawrence-Cedarhurst fire departments all helped battle the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
