Lynbrook Teen to Host 'Teens Making Good Choices' Assembly Program

After years of volunteering with Nassau County Girl Scouts, Lynbrook teen Jennifer Dean is hosting her final volunteering project on "Teens Making Good Choices," an assembly to address risky behaviors in teens such as distracted driving, speeding and teen car crashes. 

The cornerstone of Dean's Gold Award project is the assembly program for teens and their parents to be at Lynbrook High School on Thursday Jan. 9, at 7 p.m.

The evening will include a presentation of the highly acclaimed Driving in the Safe Lane program by The Community Parent Center. A retired Nassau County Police Officer and the parent of a teen killed in a car crash will provide their expertise during this seminar. 

Driving in the Safe Lane was launched in 2005 by the Community Parent Center in response to the growing problem of unsafe teen driving. The program is designed to reduce teen crashes and save lives through parent/teen awareness and education, the Girl Scouts said in a release. 

The program targets parents as key players in influencing their teens to drive safely and responsibly by: 

• Addressing safety measures and recommending parental guidelines that reinforce these measures 

• Reviewing state driving laws and parental responsibility 

• Providing information about risky behaviors and adolescent development 

• Distributing informational packets promoting safe driving 

The assembly will be held in the Lynbrook High School auditorium.
