Stored Fireworks Lead To House Fire, Arrest In Nassau: Police
Louis Distefano was placed in custody on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — A man was arrested after a fire broke out in his Franklin Square home from stored fireworks in the garage, police said.
Louis Distefano, 57, is charged with unlawful storage of explosives and unlawful possession of explosives- without licenses and certificates, authorities said.
The fire spread to a nearby fence after engulfing the Morton Avenue residence's garage on Tuesday afternoon. Fireworks also entered the living room, landing on a couch and starting a fire inside the home, police said.

The Franklin Square Fire Department, Arson Bomb Squad and Nassau County Fire Marshal and the Town of Hempstead Building Department all responded to the scene.
No injuries were reported.

Distefano was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
