Car Accident at Friendly's Causes Gas Leak and Evacuations

A car accident at Friendly's led to evacuations and the closure of Sunrise Highway Monday, police said.

The one car accident occurred at 12:09 p.m. and caused a gas line to rupture.

National Grid workers were called to the scene and fixed the lines as residents a block south of the restaurant were evacuated, according to police.

Sunrise Higway was closed in both directions until 1:45 p.m when the leak was fixed. Nobody was hurt.
