Ex-Husband Responsible For Massapequa Stabbing That Killed Woman
Nassau police say Vincent Maiolica killed his 29-year-old ex-wife, and later died from his wounds. The couple had an 18-month-old daughter.
MASSAPEQUA, NY — The man behind the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old Massapequa woman was her estranged husband, Nassau County police said. He has also died of injuries he self-inflicted.
Police say that 34-year-old Vincent Maiolica stabbed his former wife, 29-year-old Irene Spantopanagos, and an unidentified 22-year-old woman, at the couple's Massapequa home on March 12. He then tried to hang himself, sources said.
Officers rushed all three to a nearby hospital. Spantopanagos died on March 13. Police confirmed the attack was an attempted murder/suicide.

Nassau County police say that Maiolica died at the hospital on March 14. The 22-year-old woman, who police have not named, is still in the hospital.
According to News 12, Spantopanagos and Maiolica were separated. Sources told News 12 that the 22-year-old woman had a relationship of some kind with Maiolica.

Spantopanagos and Maiolica had an 18-month-old daughter named Alessia. Friends and family of Spantopanagos have set up a fundraiser to help the girl.
