Massapequa firefighters spent several hours battling a small brush fire in the Massapequa preserve Thursday, fire officials said.
The blaze broke out shortly after 8 a.m. in an area of the preserve near the Lake Shore Drive and Harding Street entrance.
Although it was a small fire and did little damage, firefighters remained on the scene for two and a half hours out of abundance of caution.
"The most difficult thing in a situation like this is gaining access to the location, one firefighter said.
Firefighters said that they received a call from a passerby inside the preserve alerting them to the fire.
The fire was put out by 10:30 a.m., nobody was hurt.
