A problem with the heating system at Birch Lane Elementary School led to a two hour delay in the school's opening Wednesday, officials said.
The problem was discovered at 7 a.m. when staff realized the building was not sufficiently heated. National Grid was called in to monitor the problem.
The decision to delay the opening was announced about an hour later.
The heater was fixed and National Grid cleared the school to be opened at 11:15 a.m., school officials said.
Later on, all afternoon and evening activities at the school were canceled.
