Lacrosse Star From Massapequa Among Nation's Best Scorers

Former St. Anthony stars Will Manny of Umass and Tom Schreiber of Princeton are among the NCAA men's leaders in total points.

Massapequa native Will Manny was a star at St. Anthony's High School, but he's now made his mark amongst the nation's elite college lacrosse players.

The UMass attacker is third in the nation in points (4.71). Manny, a junior from Massapequa, had an explosive  7-goal, 2-assist game in a February win over Army.

It's a sign of the strength of the St Anthony's program that  Princeton sophomore midfield Tom Schreiber is also among the NCAA scoring leaders.

“I did a lot of extra work this summer to get stronger and faster,” said Schreiber, who is from East Meadow. “My dad helped me with shooting.”

But Schreiber claims Princeton is simply playing more as a unit and result is a 4-2 mark, highlighted by a 12-6 blowout of Hofstra.

Manny, a junior, has 21 goals and 12 assists to help UMass to a hot 7-0 start. He has an impressive .583 shooting percentage, also good for third in the nation.

"Will always had that talent," Schreiber told Patch. "It's good to see he's finally getting some credit for it."

UMass is ranked third in the USILA Coaches poll while Princeton is 13th. If they meet, it'll be in the NCAA Tournament.
