LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Island could be hit with heavy rain today, but then the rest of the week will be beautiful and clear.
According to the National Weather Service, rain is very likely today, and it could be heavy at times. areas of Long Island could see up to three quarters of an inch of rain.
Rain will continue into the evening, but then taper off tonight.

But come Tuesday, it's clear and sunny skies for the rest of the week. The high temperature will gradually increase over the week until hitting 90 on Friday.
The weather for the holiday weekend is still up in the air. There could be rain and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday, but it's still a tossup at this point.

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 80. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tonight: Showers likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 61. Southwest wind around 7 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North wind 5 to 7 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 82. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
