Looking Ahead to Future School Budgets

Massapequa voters passed the 2013-14 School Budget Tuesday. Will putting together future spending plans be harder or easier?

Voters in the Massapequa School District said "Yes" to the 2013-14 school budget Tuesday.

The $186 million spending plan passed easily, with nearly 70 percent of voters approving it.

It also comes at the end of a difficult budget season. The district laid off 35 teachers as well as other employees. Officials cited declining enrollment as the reason the layoffs were put in place.

They also say that rising health care and pension costs could make future budgets difficult.
