Is this the year Massapequa football returns to the top?
Rival coaches sure believe so. The Chiefs were seeded No. 1 in Nassau’s black-and-blue Conference I, ahead of defending champ and rival Farmingdale.
Practice begins Aug. 19 and the Chiefs hope to build on semifinal appearances in back-to-back seasons.

It could have easily been Massapequa’s year in 2012. Farmingdale intercepted two passes and came up with a safety in the fourth quarter to stymie the Chiefs, 12-9, on the Hofstra turf last November.
In fact, the Chiefs lost to the last two eventual county champions.

While Massapequa is the top seed, the road to a title runs still through Farmingdale until the Chiefs can beat Buddy Krumenacker and his hard-hitting crew. Massapequa hosts the Dalers Oct. 5.
Look out for Oceanside and Baldwin on the road late in the season. If the Chiefs can handle those critical tests, then Massapequa could be playing for a Long Island championship come November.
Either way it’ll be a fun ride.
