Massapequa goes to Harvard

Thirteen teachers from the Massapequa School district recently sharpened their skills recently at a program held at Harvard University.

The program called Project Zero Classroom, a program designed to help teachers create an environment that will nurture creative thinking and problem solving in and out of the classroom.

The teachers from Massapequa's elementary schools and Berner Middle School attended with support from the Massapequa Community Fund with additional support from the district, school officials said.
 
The Massapequa Community Fund is an organization co-founded by actor and Massapequa alumnus Billy Baldwin who championed the Harvard program after seeing it strengthen schools in California.

Massapequa Superintendent Lucille Iconis says teachers that attend, "are inspired by its instructional methodology and its seamless alignment with the Common Core Learning Standards. Both strategies delve deeply in subject matter and employ the mantra of ‘going a mile deep, instead of a mile wide’,” she said.

Teachers who made  Who attended were: Maggie Rago, Danielle Mammolito, Teresa Ferreira, Stephen Aspetti, Stephanie Williams, Debra Cirella, Marlene Feinberg, Ryan Aliperti, Glenna Raskin, Megan Pawlick, Christina Haley, Janice Kincaid and Kira Wilkens."
