Massapequa Group to Hold Educational Forum Tuesday
School officials an administrators to participate in program at Bar Harbour Library.

Educators, administrators and school board members will attend a forum on educational issues at the Bar Harbour Library Tuesday night, organizers said.
The event, sponsored by members of the Facebook group, "Heart of Massapequa Public Schools," will take place at 7 p.m.
The group was formed this Spring in response to the elimination of teaching positions in the District, according to founder, Tracey Discepolo.
"Many of the discussion threads lately deal with issues that are in regards to the implementation and appropriateness of the common core curriculum and the related testing," she said "My perception is that since the cancellation of the elementary 2014 Spring Exhibit last month and the release of the baseline state test scores this week, more people on social media in Massapequa have become interested in obtaining more information and seem to be questioning whether this next chapter in education is good for our children both locally and nationwide. "
Among those speaking at the forum will be Comsewogue Superintendent Dr. Joseph Rella, who wrote a letter to state lawmakers over the summer blasting the test scoring system. The letter went viral on the internet.
Parent Activist Jeanette Buetermann will also speak.
Among those also slated to attend, according to Discepolo are Massapequa Superintendent Lucille Iconis, School Board President Gary Bennett, as well as board members Tim Taylor and Mary Anne Fischer.
