Massapequa Mother Accused of Leaving Children Home Alone

A Massapequa mom left her children home alone and was arrested after her landlord called 911 police said.

Melissa Garcia, 27, was seen leaving her apartment on Melrose Avenue at about 6:15 p.m., according to police.

After she got into her, car the landlord alerted police that her children, ages 6 and 1, were left alone.

Police said they were seen inside the apartment and in front of the house.

Garcia returned shortly after cops arrived and she was placed under arrest. 

She's charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The children were released to their grandmother and Child Protective Services is investigating the incident.
