Merrick Boutique Owner Receives Empire Award
The owner of Olive It Boutique received a special recognition for her community service efforts on Dec. 24.

MERRICK, NY. — Melissa Briscoe, owner of Olive It Boutique, received an extra gift this holiday season, as the Merrick businesswoman was presented with the New York State Empire Award Dec. 24. The award, presented to Briscoe by State Senator Steve Rhoads, is given to businesses and their owners who exemplify a commitment to community leadership and service in addition to running their businesses.
The award was announced Dec. 24, with Rhoads’ office noting that Briscoe, “Exemplifies community leadership through both her business and her volunteerism. As an active member of the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, she serves as the Chamber’s primary social media coordinator, dedicating countless volunteer hours to spotlight local businesses, promote community events, and strengthen Merrick’s small business community.”
Rhoads’ office said Briscoe also supports Merrick PTA raffles, which donate funds to local schools, and Yellow Ribbons Against Cancer, a fundraiser that advances awareness and research of cancer. She’s also involved in community traditions including the Merrick Halloween Parade and the Merrick Christmas tree and menorah lighting ceremonies.

“Her generosity, leadership, and dedication have made a lasting impact on the community she proudly serves…The Empire Award stands as a testament to her tireless efforts and the meaningful difference she continues to make in Merrick,” The state senator’s office said.
