MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Massapequa School District has a new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, but Dr. Brian Trapani is a familiar face in the community.

Trapani has served as the district's curriculum associate for social studies. For the past eight years, he worked with educators at the elementary, middle and high school levels to strengthen the social studies program by fostering historical knowledge and civic participation, the district said.

Trapani is also the district's Advanced Placement Capstone coordinator.

Under Trapani's leadership, the 12th-grade AP social studies curriculum was redesigned to
enable student choice, with AP Microeconomics and AP Comparative Government courses
introduced.

Before coming to Massapequa, Trapani worked in the Commack School District for 14 years as a middle school history teacher and later as the district coordinator of social studies.

Trapani has also served as a college professor for Molloy University’s summer
institute.

Superintendent Dr. William Brennan said: "It was clear that the ideal candidate was already among our dedicated leadership team. Dr. Trapani has a strong and clear vision for education. He aims to educate all students to their highest academic potential and teach them the skills and knowledge needed to thrive.
