MASSAPEQUA, NY — Massapequa High School seniors Christina Fradella and Christian Kotten have been recognized for their leadership in physical education classes. They were selected for the Outstanding Physical Education Student Award, presented by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

The award recognizes two students from every high school, one female and one male, who exemplify physical performance, scholastic ability and leadership qualities. Christina and Christian, who both strive to lead physically active lifestyles, were selected by the Massapequa High School physical education faculty.

Christian said he has enjoyed physical education classes since elementary school because it allowed him to build confidence and social skills. He tries to be a leader through his active participation in all of physical education activities.

“Physical education has always been something that’s special to me,” he said. “It's helped me grow physically and socially. It’s helped me blossom as a person. I am truly honored to receive this award.”

Christian is also a member of the wrestling team and took karate classes for 12 years.

For Christina, she is on the tennis, winter track and lacrosse teams. Physical education classes, she explained, have introduced her to many other sports such as badminton and deck hockey. One of her goals in class is to get her classmates energized and excited.

“I always try my best and I’m very competitive,” Christina said about the active role she plays in physical education classes. “It definitely helps me relieve stress because I take a lot of hard classes.”

Christina and Christian, along with their peers throughout Nassau County, will be honored at an awards dinner on Dec. 5 at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
