Massapequa Schools Names Its Next Superintendent

MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Massapequa Board of Education has announced that Dr. William Brennan will be the district's next superintendent. He was appointed during a meeting on March 3, and will take over the position on July 1.

Brennan comes to Massapequa from the Farmingdale School District, where he is the current assistant superintendent for innovation and organizational development. He has more than 22 years of educational experience. He has been a science teacher, professional developer, athletic coach, administrator and adjunct professor.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Brennan to our school district,” Board President Kerry Wachter said. “Dr. Brennan is a leader of leaders. He understands and shares the values of Massapequa, is an experienced educator and is respected among his colleagues. Most importantly, he is a relationship builder who will utilize the talents of our staff to achieve district-wide shared
goals. We look forward to working with him to establish a vision for Massapequa’s future.”

During his time in Farmingdale, Brennan led the district through a comprehensive strategic planning process, added many new course offerings, expanded opportunities for students to pursue Advanced Placement and college-level courses, and created systems for real-time access to academic and social-emotional learning support. He also successfully planned and managed multiple capital projects aimed at creating student-centered instructional spaces. He engaged students and invited them to share their ideas on the design of new spaces.

He has also led several initiatives that resulted in more opportunities for students to pursue their academic and career-learning interests such as new enrichment programs, secondary elective classes and an innovative student support learning lab. Brennan has also led Farmingdale through a transformation around school safety and security across all buildings, chaired the Legislative Action Committee and improved internal and external communications.

“I am thankful to the board for the opportunity to lead Massapequa and continue the tradition of
achievement,” Brennan said. “I believe that meaningful change only happens when you first connect to people’s hearts, and that begins with building strong relationships, empathetic listening and compassion. I look forward to being a hands-on and visible member of the school community.”

Brennan received his Doctor of Education from Fordham University, his Master of Science from
Long Island University and his Bachelor of Science from Marist College. He has earned numerous professional awards and recognitions, published several articles in educational publications, presented on various educational topics nationwide and served on several professional organizations. He lives in Bay Shore with his wife and three children.
