Nassau Police ID Woman Killed In Attempted Murder/Suicide

A 29-year-old woman was killed. Another woman, and the man police think is responsible, remain in critical condition.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Nassau County police have identified one victim in an attempted murder/suicide that occurred in Massapequa over the weekend.

According to police, officers were sent to a home on North Manhattan Avenue at 7:01 p.m. on March 12 for a disturbance. When they arrived, they found two women, ages 22 and 29, who had been stabbed by a 34-year-old man.

Police found the man inside the home, and say he had tried to kill himself. Reports from the scene say he attempted to hang himself.

Officers rendered aid to the main at the scene. All three were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Around 10 a.m. on March 13, police say the 29-year-old woman — who they have identified as Irene Maiolica-Spantopanagos, of Massapequa — died from her injuries.

Both the 22-year-old woman and the man remain in critical condition. Police have not yet identified either of them.
