Nassau Police Warn Of 'Potential Lethal Batch' Of Heroin

Six people have overdosed and one person has died in recent days, police said in issuing a warning to the public and drug users.

Nassau County officials are warning of a “potential lethal batch” of heroin that is believed to have caused numerous overdoses, one fatal, in recent days.

"The public and those who use illicit drugs should understand the potential to overdose is extremely high given what has transpired during this period of time," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J. Ryder said in an statement late Tuesday night.

The recent increase in overdoses has occurred in the Massapequa-area.

Family and friends of those affected should stress the importance of treatment, authorities said.

"Everyone impacted by this epidemic is urged to be cautious and vigilant of a 'potential lethal batch' of heroin. Anyone seeking assistance for this addiction can call 911."
