Plainedge H.S. Hosts Special Olympics Event Next Month

More than 500 athletes are expected to participate in the track and field competition on May 4.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — More than 500 athletes will participate in the Spring Olympics Spring Games next month at Plainedge High School.

The games feature a full day of competitive track and field events. The athletes, children and adults with intellectual disabilities, have put in months of training for the Olympic-style competition.

"The Special Olympic Spring Games provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase the hard work, dedication, talents, and tremendous athletic achievements of these special athletes, while also paving the way to eliminate social barriers and stereotypes differently-abled individuals face," Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino said of the town partnering Special Olympics New York.
