MASSAPEQUA, NY — Massapequa High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department will once again sponsor a preschool program for district residents, hosted by students in child study courses. The preschool is supervised by child study program director Anna Fierro-Gregg.

The preschool program will begin in early December and will end next June. Two sessions are being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each approximately 80 minutes. Children must attend both days of the session chosen.

To be eligible, children must be between the ages of 3 (as of Dec. 6) and 5 (not attending kindergarten) and toilet trained. Enrollment in the program is limited and selection will be by lottery drawing with currently enrolled families and Massapequa residents receiving priority. Families must provide transportation to and from Massapequa High School.

Fierro-Gregg said that the high school students working as “teachers” with the preschool program are enrolled in either the parenting and child development course or college-level child study class. Students will plan, prepare and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students.

The registration deadline is Sept. 30. Fierro-Gregg will reply to all successfully received applications within a week. Notice of acceptance into the program will be emailed by Oct. 14.
