Sunrise Highway In Massapequa Renamed In Honor Of James Kennelly
The roadway will honor Port Authority Police Officer James W. Kennelly, who died from 9/11-related cancer in 2017.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Massapequa community came together recently to rename a portion of Old Sunrise Highway as “Port Authority Police Officer James W. Kennelly Memorial Highway.”
Kennelly died in 2017 as the result of 9/11-related cancer he developed while responding to Ground Zero after the terrorist attack with the Massapequa Fire Department, where he served as a volunteer firefighter.
“From this day forward, the stretch of roadway known as Old Sunrise Highway will be designated as Port Authority Police Officer James W. Kennelly Memorial Highway," said Assemblyman Michael Durso. "Thank you to the Port Authority Police Department, Massapequa Fire Department, and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino for helping make this event happen. And a sincere thank you to The Kennelly Family for their support.”
