Taylor Hopes for Smooth Transition to New Superintendent
Looks forward to new term on Massapequa School Board

Hours after winning one of Massapequa's most unusual school board elections, Tim Taylor went back to his day job.
"My wife told me to get off Facebook and get back to work," said Taylor who won a write-in election to win a third term.
Taylor, who owns Tim's Tree Service,, which specializes in tree removal, admitted to being covered in sawdust as he looked ahead.
"I'm hoping for a smooth transition to Lucille [Iconis]," Taylor said, referring to the incoming Superintendent, who will replace the retiring Charles Sulc.
She Currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the district.
"She's phenomenal," Taylor said. "She's the first person to work every day and last to leave."
The board will have the same makeup as last year's and Taylor believes stability is a good thing.
"We have a board that works pretty decently together despite our differences," he said.
He says he will maintain a fiscally conservative approach, while acknowledging that the district needs to deal with a declining enrollment that led to teacher layoffs and as well as difficulties putting the budget together under the tax cap.
There was one aspect of his re-election that had Taylor concerned. That was the low turnout at the polls.
"We only had 4,000 people voted for the budget," he said adding that only about
1,160 cast a vote in the write-in election. I'm disappointed by the turnout, what can be more important than our children's education?"
