MASSAPEQUA, NY — All month, Patch is asking readers to share who they're grateful for. Massapequa residents Tom and Eileen Lloyd thanked their neighbors for their help and support during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here's the message they shared:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we survived because of our two wonderful neighbors and stores like IGA that picked our groceries and delivered them to our car. As seniors, in our 80s, we had to be very careful until we received the vaccine and booster shots. We needed to avoid all crowds until we received the vaccine. Our neighbors Nancy Pattitucci, and Joe and Lois Bentivegna helped save our lives and we are forever grateful for these loving neighbors. Likewise the folks at the IGA grocery store risked their lives coming to work everyday and delivering all our food to our car. Thank you so much!

Living with gratitude goes beyond merely being thankful. It doesn't mean pretending bad things don't happen, but rather savoring the goodness, according to experts on the topic, including Robert Emmons, a Unviersity of California, Davis, psychology professor who is known as the "father of gratitude."
