Town Demolishes Massapequa Zombie Home
The abandoned house had been a blight to the community for years, town officials said.

MASSAPEQUA, NY — Town of Oyster Bay officials joined with town workers to demolish another zombie home in Massapequa on Wednesday. It was the 16th abandoned home that has been demolished since the Quality of Life Taskforce was formed four years ago.
"Our residents care deeply about their communities and should not be faced with such a blight day after day," said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "After following the process of issuing notices of violation, multiple inspections and several property cleanups, we are pleased this location will no longer be an eyesore in the community."
This house in Massapequa had been left unmaintained and numerous code violations issued upon the property owner went unanswered. The building was found to be in very poor condition, with overgrown vegetation, excessive roof damage, water penetration and general unsanitary conditions. The town took court action and ultimately the demolition of the structure was approved.
