Update: 'Soupy' the Massapequa Cat Found with a Can on its Head Ready for Good Home

The cat found in Massapequa with a Campbell's soup can on its head is recovering well and ready for adoption, says vet manager.

The hungry cat found with a Campbell’s soup can on its head in Massapequa is responding well to human contact and is ready for adoption.

The cat, aptly named ”Soupy,” was taken to Massapequa Pet Vet Jan. 4, where it has since been neutered.

“He’s been doing very well,” said Massapequa Pet Vet Manager Donna Terris. “We’ve been working with him and acclimated him and he’s been quite lovely.”

The cat was originally thought to be feral and an unlikely candidate for adoption, but when a vet technician took him out of his cage, put him in her sweatshirt and played with him, he responded well to human contact.

“We’ve just been repeating that and he’s getting quite acclimated,” Terris said. “Sometimes he’ll hiss but once you get him in your arms, he purrs.”

The vet has received interest from potential adopters but Terris said “his best interest is going to be first and foremost, so it’s going to have to be a right fit for him and the person.”
