Weigh in on Hurricane Anniversary

On the morning of August 28, 2011, Massapequa woke up to a mess. After days of watches and warnings, Hurricane Irene s of Long Island.

Thousands in the area were without the power. Many lost electricity for days. Streets and roads were flooded, particularly south of Merrick Road. Neighborhoods were littered with downed trees.

While the damage was extensive the area was able to absorb the blow and things were back to normal about a week later.
