On-Duty Crossing Guard Struck By Vehicle And Hurt While Helping Pedestrian In Medford: Police

She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life- threatening injuries, police say.

MEDFORD, NY — An on-duty Suffolk police crossing guard was hurt after being struck by a vehicle while helping a pedestrian in Medford Tuesday morning, the law enforcement agency said.

The crossing guard was struck by a 2019 Ford SUV at the intersection of Beechnut and Wave avenues at 9:11 a.m. after entering the crosswalk and displaying her stop sign when a driver failed to stop, police said.

The pedestrian, who is an adult, had not yet entered the crosswalk and was not injured, according to police.

The driver of the Ford, a 67-year-old woman from Blue Point, was issued a summons for failure to yield, according to police.
