GORDON HEIGHTS, NY – A Long Island man was seriously injured in a fireworks accident on the Fourth of July, police said. According to Suffolk Police, a 26-year-old man lit a firework while outside of his home on Wilson Avenue in Gordon Heights at about 11:30 p.m. The man, who police did not name, lost three fingers when the firework exploded in his left hand. The man was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.An average of 230 people in the United States visit the emergency room with fireworks-related injuries around the Fourth of July holiday every year, according to the United State Consumer Protection Agency.
