NYS 8th Assembly District Preview: Michael Fitzpatrick Vs. Steven Basileo

LONG ISLAND, NY — Voters in New York's 8th Assembly District will see an incumbent challenged as they head to the polls on Nov. 5.

The candidates:

  • Michael Fitzpatrick (Republican, Conservative)
  • Steven Basileo (Democrat)

Incumbent Michael Fitzpatrick, of St. James, was first elected to office in 2002. In 2022, he garnered 68 percent of the vote, according to Ballotpedia.

Fitzpatrick did not respond to Patch's questionnaire.

He will face Democrat Steven Basileo, also of St. James, in the election. Basileo is a lifelong resident of St. James and works in the Communications Center for Service Employees International Union. He has a Master's degree in Public Policy from Stony Brook University.

Communities in the 8th Assembly District includes Head of Harbor, Islandia, Nissequogue, Village of the Branch, Brentwood, Commack, Fort Salonga, Hauppauge, Kings Park, Lake Ronkonkoma, Nesconset, Ronkonkoma, Smithtown, and St. James.
