MERRICK, NY β€” Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors. How do you know the star local student? She’s my daughter!

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized? Maisie has been a ballet dancer since the age of three. She attended the prestigious School of American Ballet for six years, performed with the New York City Ballet on the stage, all while remaining a straight- A student. She has given up so much socially to pursue this endeavor. Now that she is in high school, she has chosen to switch schools and attend the (also prestigious) Eglevsky Ballet School so she has more time to focus on her studies. She loves the art of ballet and has always made it a part of her life. Her passion is evident, and while she might not pursue it as a career (she wants to be a public defender or an archaeologist).
