Campgrounds Repaving to Begin on Monday

The second phase of the repaving of The Campgrounds ,also known as "Tiny Town," will begin in North Merrick on Monday, according to Susie Trenkle-Pokalsky, spokesperson for the Town of Hempstead.

At a Hempstead Town Board meeting on June 4 the board approved the bid by Roadwork Ahead, Inc. to complete the second phase of the Campgrounds Rehabilitation Project. 

Councilwoman Angie Cullin, who will lose The Campgrounds in January 2014 due to redistricting, has relinquished the second phase of the project over to Councilman Gary Hudes. 

The roads that have already been taken care of include Haven Avenue, Peck Avenue, Webb Avenue, Bangs Avenue, Fletcher Avenue, Kingsley Avenue, Olin Avenue, half of Wesley Avenue and half of Fletcher Avenue and Abbott Avenue from Hedding Avenue to Bangs Avenue. Drainage improvements were made in those locations as well.

During the second phase of the project the roads to be paved include Abbott Avenue from Hedding Avenue to East Drive, Fisk Avenue, the rest of Wesley Avenue, the rest of Fletcher Avenue, Hedding Avenue and Central Avenue from Peck Avenue to Wesley Avenue.

The plan excludes Thomas and Waugh Avenues because they are privately owned roads.
