Cops: Oceanside Man Caught With Hundreds of Fireworks

Police arrived as the man was wiring fireworks on the street Saturday night, officials said.

An Oceanside man was busted with more than 500 fireworks on the Fourth of July, according to Nassau County Police.

Officers responded to W. Henrietta Avenue at 7:40 p.m. after receiving complaints about fireworks violations, cops said. Responders arrived and saw Joseph Tullo, 29, wiring mortar tube racks in the street in front of his home, police said.

A total of 539 mortar tubes were set up and loaded with shells, authorities said. Another 91 assorted cakes were found on the grass apron next to the racks, cops said.

Tullo was charged with storage of explosives, licenses, and certificates. He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
