'Dedication And Determination': Merrick Star Student

MERRICK, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Jessica Brewer who nominated her daughter Sydney, Grade 11 of Merrick.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Sydney, 17, has proven herself to be a leader not only in her school but her community. She raised over $3,300 to purchase Stop The Bleed Kits for each classroom in her high school and then had Northwell Health Doctors come in to train each student on how to use the kits should they ever find themselves in an emergency situation.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Sydney's dedication and determination towards her Stop The Bleed awareness and education is commendable. Equally important, is her compassion for others and her caring nature. She is the most responsible, dependable and kind human. The world can use more Sydney Brewer's in it!
