Firefighter Injured While Extinguishing Sutton Place Fire
The extent of the man's injuries are unknown,North Merrick Chief James Rogers said.
A firefighter was injured while he was helping to extinguish a house fire on Sutton Place in North Merrick on Tuesday.Â
"Part of the roof collapsed on his head while he was inside fighting the fire," Chief James Rogers said. "He was transported to the nearest hospital."
The extent of the firefighter's injuries are unknown.Â
The heavy blaze started around 3:15 p.m.Â
Rogers said that people were working on the house before the fire started, but he does not know if they were the owners of the home or construction workers.
Fire departments from Merrick, East Meadow, Freeport, Roosevelt, Bellmore and North Bellmore were on the scene.Â
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Patch will provide more details as it becomes available.Â
