Hurricane Preparedness Forum, Breast Cancer Screening Program
A look at what's happening in and around Merrick this week.

1.Hurricane and Emergency Prepareness Program: Assemblyman Dave McDonough, R,C,I-Merrick and Senator Charles Fuschillo will host the program at Merrick Road Park at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
2.Beach Bag Book Club: The Merrick Public Library in conjunction with the North Merrick, Bellmore and North Bellmore libraries will host the Beach Bag Book Club. During each meeting, kids will have an opportunity to meet authors and discuss their books with them. The meetings will include raffles, a book sale and book signings. Tiffany Schmidt will present her book “Send Me a Sign” on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
3.College Essay Class: Classes will be run by a NYS teacher, writing professor and freelance writer. Classes will take place on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Temple Israel of South Merrick until Aug. 28.
4.Breast Cancer Screening Program: The free breast cancer screening program, sponsored by Senator Charles Fuschillo, will take place at the Merrick Public Library on Thursday from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
