JFK runner Tillman Earns High School Heisman

John F. Kennedy High School cross-country runner Alexis Tillman was selected as a Wendy’s High School Heisman state winner, the only student in Nassau County chosen for the honor.

The award is given to a high school senior who is dedicated to learning, leading and performing in their school and community.

“She is a fierce competitor and was the cross-country team’s co-captain and MVP,” said head girls varsity cross- country coach and English teacher Michael P. Cooney. “Alexis (made) all-conference and all-county this season and was a wonderful role model for the team not only while running on the course, but inside the classroom as well.”

“Lexie has done all three, she has been named captain, she strives for excellence with her advanced science research and has also earned all-county honors,” cross-country coach Chris Mammone. “She is extremely determined and a very driven athlete.”

State winners earn $1,000 for their school in their name, in addition to Wendy’s gift cards.
