Judge Gives $1.6 Billion For Sexual Abuse Suits Against Ex-Doc: Report

Former Merrick pediatrician Stuart Cooperman had his medical license in 2000.

MINEOLA, NY — A Nassau County Supreme Court judge awarded $1.6 billion to more than 100 women who claimed sexual abuse by a former Stuart Copperman, a former Merrick pediatrician, Newsday reported.

Decisions in the last five cases were filed on Friday.

The jury considered the physical abuse and the psychological toll it took on the victims.

Cooperman, 89, whose medical license was revoked in 2000, did not present a defense, Newsday said.

Cases reviewed more than 18 months with damaged awards to each plaintiff who sued Cooperman, Newsday said.
