Man With Suspended Registration Crashes Twice Evading Officers: Police

Corey Jones faces multiple charges including resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

ROOSEVELT, NY — A driver, who had an suspended registration, was arrested on Monday afternoon for causing multiple crashes while fleeing police, authorities said.

Corey Jones, 29, of Levittown, was driving a 2019 Hyundai Elantra. As police attempted to approach the vehicle at the Southern State Parkway entrance ramp, Jones fled onto the highway, police said.

He committed multiple vehicle and traffic violations before exiting the parkway and striking a 2019 Land Rover at the intersection of West Greenwich Avenue and Brookside Avenue, police said.

Jones then collided with a 2002 Mercedes, authorities said.

Officers observed Jones exit the vehicle and flee eastbound on West Greenwich Avenue. After a brief foot pursuit, Jones was taken custody without further incident, authorities said.

A 27-year-old female driver and 1-year-old baby from the Land Rover were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, police said.

During the investigation, three pills believed to be oxycodone hydrochloride were recovered, police said.

Jones faces charges that include with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree reckless endangerment, police said.

He is also charged with third-degree burglary for a crime that was committed in December, authorities said.

Jones is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
