Nassau Gym Lockers Broken Into; Cars Keys, Credit Cards Stolen: Police

Devon Barrett went into the gym lockers of nine different victims during a nine-day span in February, police said.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A Central Islip man was arrested for multiple grand larcenies at gyms in Nassau County, police said.

Between February 14 and February 25, Devon Barrett, 33, went into the gym lockers of nine different victims. He took the car keys and took more items once inside of their vehicle, authorities said.

On seven occasions, Barrett used or attempted to use the victim's credit cards at nearby locations, police said.

The eight incidents are as follows:

  • Saturday, Feb. 15, 8:00 p.m. Planet Fitness, 40 Manetto Hill Mall, Plainview
  • Monday, Feb. 17, 7:30 p.m., Planet Fitness, 923 Carmans Road, Massapequa
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18, 10:50 a.m., Blink Fitness, 1789 Grand Avenue, Baldwin
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18, 6:00 p.m., L.A. Fitness, 1111 Marcus Avenue, New Hyde Park
  • Friday, Feb. 21, 6:30 p.m., Blink Fitness, 1789 Grand Avenue, Baldwin
  • Tuesday, Feb. 25, 8:33 p.m., Blink Fitness, 1968 Grand Avenue, Baldwin.

After an extensive investigation Barrett was arrested in Wednesday evening in Brentwood. He is charged with eight counts of fourth-grand larceny, seven counts of second-degree identity theft, and counts of petty larceny, police said.

He was arraigned on Thursday.
