North Merrick Fire Deemed Non-Suspicious

According to authorities, roofers were working on the home before the fire started.

Detectives have deemed a house fire that took place on Sutton Place on Tuesday as non-suspicious. 

The house sustained extensive damage.

According to authorities, roofers were doing work on the home when they noticed that the lights went out. As they notified the homeowner who was sleeping inside, they realized that smoke was coming from the home. 

The 73-year-old female homeowner exited the house safely. 
Departments from East Meadow, Freeport, Merrick, Bellmore, North Bellmore, and Roosevelt responded with 75 firefighters and 11 apparatus to extinguish the fire.  

An East Meadow firefighter, who suffered head and neck burns was treated at a local hospital where he was treated and released. 

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
