Playa Bowls Will Open Saturday In Merrick In Former Vine Wine Bar

The New Jersey-based chain of acai bowl franchises is opening its 12th New York store, and second on Long Island, on Merrick Ave.

MERRICK, NY—The Playa Bowls chain of franchises serving acai bowls has come to Long Island. A Miller Place location opened earlier this fall, and now a second spot in Merrick is gearing up to open.

Playa Bowls Merrick is having a grand opening this Saturday at 2259 Merrick Rd., beginning at 11 a.m. Keith Devito and Danny Volk are the twp Long Islanders who are opening the franchise.

The storefront was most recently the home of The Vine Wine Bar, which closed this summer after 11 years of operation.

Playa Bowls originated in Belmar, New Jersey seven years ago and now has 134 stores nationwide and 12 in New York State.

The founders, surfers Abby Taylor and Rob Giuliani, encountered acai and pitaya bowls on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California and Hawaii and wanted to bring the concept back to New Jersey.

Customers can choose from a menu of fruit bowls or pick their own base like acai, coconut or kale and add toppings like fresh fruit, seeds, nuts, granola and more.
