Roosevelt Civic Advocate Remembered As 'Advocate'

ROOSEVELT, NY — A longtime civic activist from Roosevelt was remembered at a funeral Mass on Monday at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre, Newsday said.

Maureen Powell, whose fundraising projects were recognized by the Roosevelt School District, died on Nov. 28. She was 90, Newsday said.

She was the widow of former Roosevelt school board vice president Wilbur Powell.

On Monday, The district issued a proclamation toward the life of Powell, describing her as a "caring advocate" and a "liberal humanitarian."
