Stonehill Pole Vaulter Compete At Indoor Track & Field Championship

Jacob Pacheco of Merrimack finished third at day one of the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Stonehill College men's indoor track and field team wrapped up day one of the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships and Jacob Pacheco (Merrimack, N.H. / Bishop Guertin) highlighted Sunday's events with a third place finish in the pole vault. Whereas the Skyhawks saw four student-athletes qualify for the finals of their respective events tomorrow.

After the first day of action, Stonehill currently is in sixth place with 12 points ahead of schools such as Wagner and St. Francis College Brooklyn. Central Connecticut leads the way with 38 points followed by Long Island University (23 points), Sacred Heart University (22.50 points), Saint Francis University and Merrimack are tied for fourth with 20 points each.

Highlights

· Pacheco's third place finish brought the Skyhawsk the most points on the day (six points) with his leap of 4.50-meters (14' 9"). His mark in the championship tied his season-high set back at the NEICAAA's Indoor Track and Field Championships (Feb. 2-3).

· In the preliminaries, Solomon King (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) led the way qualifying for two races (60-meter dash and 200-meter dash). In the 60-meter dash, he took fourth place with a time of 6.98 seconds and is the third time this indoor season he posted a sub-seven second time. Meanwhile, in the 200-meter dash, King also grabbed fourth place and finished with a time of 21.91.

· Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass. / Westfield) also qualified for tomorrow's 200-meter dash final when notched an eighth place finish at 22.26 seconds. In each time he has ran in the 200-meter, Drugan has posted a time of under 23 seconds.

· Connor Hughes (Melrose, Mass. / St. John's Prep) clinched his spot in tomorrow's mile final when he came in second at 4:29.61. Stonehill's final qualifier was Reilly Johnston (Providence, R.I. / Saint Raphael Academy) with his fifth place finish in the 3,000-meter at 8:40.39. His time in the preliminaries marked a new career-best for the senior runner.

Other Performances

· Along with Pacheco in pole vault, Stonehill had another top-10 finish in the event courtesy of Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Old Saybrook). DeAngelo had a leap of 4.05-meters (13' 3.5") which marked a new season-high for the junior.

· In the other field events, Sean Theurer (Burlington, Mass. / Burlington) notched a top-20 spot (16th) in the long jump with a mark of 5.8-meters (19' 0.25"). In shotput, Jonathan Scampoli (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Roy C. Ketcham) also had a top-20 finish (16th) with a toss of 12.85-meters (42' 2").

· Drugan also partook in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and despite not being able to qualify, he posted a solid 7.14 seconds (13th) and each time he has ran in the event, he finished under eight seconds. John Paulhamus (Nashua, N.H. / Nashua) finished right behind Drugan with a time of 7.14 seconds and rounding out the finishers for the Skyhawks was Patrick Morin (Barnstable, Mass. / Sandwich) at 7.39 seconds (23rd place).

· Andrew Janus (Colchester, Conn. / Bacon Academy) also ran in the 3,000-meter with Johnston and while he did not qualify, he had a solid time of 9:19.00 for 16th place. Janus has finished with a sub 10-minute mark each time he has ran in the event this year.

· Stonehill's other two runners were Jake Dwyer (Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth North) who notched a 13th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries. It is his third sub-10 second time overall on the indoor season. Finally, Andrew Morin (Beverly, Mass. / Beverly) took part in the 500-meter dash preliminaries and came in 11th with a time of 1:08.95. Although he was not able to qualify, Morin's time ended up being a new career-best.
